2 Types Of Damage You Should Never Ignore After A Minor T-Bone Collision

by Max Day

If you were recently involved in a minor accident where your car was t-boned, you may not feel that the small amount of damage warrants immediate attention. However, there are two types of damage you should never ignore after a minor t-bone collision.

1.  Bent or Gapped Door Panels

Right after your accident, you may have noticed that the front or back door panel has been slightly bent. Or, you may notice that there is a gap around one of the doors, indicating that it has been knocked out of alignment. However, since you can open and close the door with little to no difficulty, you may decide that you can live with the damage for a little while.

However, as time goes on and you continue to use the damaged door, the misalignment will only become worse. Eventually, you may not be able to open or close the door completely. Or, as a worst case scenario, the door could unlatch while you are going down the road, posing a serious safety issue even when you are traveling at low speeds.

2.  Any Size Dent in the Center of the Car's Side

Even if you do not notice any problems with the doors, you may notice a small or medium-sized dent in the side of your car. However, since the damage does not seem to change the way the car handles, you may feel that it is still safe to drive.

However, one of the main beams of your car's frame lies beneath the surface in the area between the doors. If your car was struck by another vehicle, even if the impact was not major, there is still a strong possibility that the frame itself has become loose or even become bent.

If there is damage to the frame, your car body's strength has been compromised. If you were to be involved in any type of accident in the future, you and your passengers would not be as well protected, which could possibly lead to serious injuries. To be safe, you should have your car looked at by a professional to make sure the frame is still sound.

If you notice any of the above damage after your accident, do not ignore it, as it could cause serious issues down the road. Take your car to an auto body shop that offers collision repair services to have them assess the damage and offer suggestions on how to fix it.
